A4The Tradouw Highlands is an exceptional area located about 750 meters above sea level on a plateau extending from the Langeberg Mountains into the Little Karoo. The higher altitude, cooler growing conditions and cool moist breezes from sea ensure that the grapes ripen slowly – very slowly which give rise to wonderful flavours. The soil is a clay loam which is well drain overlaying deep clay from an ancient wetland with considerable broken shale and quartzite in the soil.

The cool conditions are ideal for Sauvignon Blanc which shows expressive notes of green fruits and minerality in the wine. The palate is rich and complex with a distinct freshness. For our Viognier & Chenin Blanc we use the wild yeast process to enhance the natural fermented flavours in the wines which shows strong apple and citrus notes. Our Shiraz has structure and is serious in style. Our unique location brings spice and earthy tones to the wine which is fermented in older 225L French Oak barrels for 24 months. The focus is not on the wood ageing but rather to develop more natural tones and flavours.

Our wine making philosophy is based on minimal interference as the terroir gives a fantastic balance naturally. Our aim is to allow the terroir to reflect in the wines.
